Spay/Neuter Grant Program

The Washington Federation of Animal Care & Control Agencies awards annual grants to help member organizations provide spay and neuter services throughout Washington State. Funding comes from sales of the SPAY • NEUTER • ADOPT specialty license plate and generous donor support.

Since 2007, the program has awarded more than $615,000, funding nearly 20,500 spay and neuter surgeries for pets from low-income households and community animals across Washington.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants include:

●     Active WA Federation organizational members for at least three months prior to the application deadline

●     Washington nonprofit organizations and municipalities.

●     Organizations that comply with all applicable local and state regulations, maintain appropriate veterinary standards, and ensure the humane treatment of all animals.

Maximum Grant Awards

Maximum grant awards are based on the organization's length of WA Federation membership:

●     Member in good standing for 1 year or less - eligible for up to $5,000

●     Member in good standing for more than 1 year - eligible for up to $10,000

Eligible Uses

Grant funds support spay and neuter surgeries for:

●     Pets from low-income households

●     Feral cats

●     Free-roaming cats

●     Free-roaming dogs

Grant funds may not be used for shelter animals or adoptable animals.

Eligible expenses include:

●     Direct surgery costs

●     Required surgical supplies

●     Rental of surgical facilities

●     Limited equipment used for spay/neuter surgeries

Recipient Responsibilities

Grant recipients are expected to:

●     Submit required grant reports on time

●     Maintain financial records documenting the use of grant funds

●     Publicly acknowledge the Washington Federation and promote the SPAY • NEUTER • ADOPT specialty license plate program in communications about the grant.
